On the Edge

Logo Reveal Sequence

  • On The Edge is wildlife conservation done by artists and scientists together in order to reverse the process of extinction for EDGE species. Since they work to bring emotional connection and awareness of animals in need through artistic content, I focused on an illustration approach to their logo reveal.

  • This metamorphosis sequence highlights their impact by showing a seabird that has been entombed in oil spillage, and its miraculous return to life in an unpolluted natural world. In this project, I wanted to make an emotional connection with my audience through the plight of a sympathetic character. The feelings of loss, discomfort, and eventual optimism make the sequence a serious call to action for viewers.

  • For my metamorphic sequence, I limited myself to three frames to convey the story in its most condensed format. Logo reveals are brief, and my sequence is meant to be a series of three short scenes that fit within a few seconds. As a result, my considerations with composition and color focus heavily on being able to allow ease of understanding.

  • I began the process with a word map and sketches so I could put out all my ideas. From here, I collected references for color, lighting, and texture before beginning my sketch phase. And once this began, I worked and reworked compositions and colors to make my sequence as direct and cohesive as possible.
